Anza-Borrego
CA desert
Mar/00
A nice motorcicle one day trip to the bigest desert
park in California.
Takes almost 2 minutes
to load
Quase 2 minutos para carregar. Aguarde.
We
left home at 6:30AM. The sun already rises and was about 45F. We
start the trip with our leather jackets and jeans AND a warm over-paints.
We went east on I-10, then south on CA243. I nice mountain ride.
After 1 hour riding we have to stop to put on our electrical vest
because the temperature was around 30F, and a lot of snow was on
the side of the road. Now I thanks for my heated grips and electrical
vest. The high point was about 6200feet and was pretty cool there.
After that we start going down and the temperature going up. |
Saimos
At
9:00AM we are at Warner Springs. A small city, next to the lake
Henshaw, on CA-79. I put gas (expensive), and we had a break fast.
Nice guys from an ambulance were there I took this picture from
they car. |
On
the back of the gas station you can see a beautiful golf club. At
that time, 9:00AM, already a lot of people were there, playing golf. |

As 9:00 horas paramos em Warm Springs. Tomamos cafe

The road was almost empty. We crossed with only few cars. |

Entramos no parte de Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
no ceu, a direita). Sera que eles estavam esperando a gente morrer??? |
Now
we are in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The only company was
2 birds flying with us during more than 1 hour. I try to get both
on the picture above. Can you see?? It was interesting. Are they
waiting for us to die??? Anza-Borrego is 1000 square miles of desert
in the biggest State Park in the contiguous United States. An extension
of Mexico's Sonora Desert, it was named after Juan Bautista de Anza,
who first pioneered a route through these inhospitable surroundings
in 1774. Borrego is the Spanish word for sheep, and the rare desert
bighorn sheep can still be seen in some of the more remote areas
of the park. The landscape is stark, but during the spring Anza-Borrego
burst into bloom as colorful wildflowers carpet the desert floor.
Special wildflower maps can be picked up at the Visitor Center at
Borrego Palm Canyon, 3 miles west of Borrego Springs. |

  |
The
highest point in the desert. Here we took our vest off (it was not
on the electrical anymore), and ride only with the leather jacket
and the over-paints. The temperature was going up to 75F. |
Aqui

Vistas
dos canyons que tem no parque. He muito impressionate. |
Some
nice views of the canyons on Anza-Borrego. It was pretty nice. |

This
is the Salton Sea. One of the most surreal places in California
is the tow of Salton City. On the shores of the Salton Sea. Planned
as the next Palm Springs, it never attracted the number expected,
so its' carefully laid-out streets lead nowhere and there are more
vacant lots than houses, giving the town a strange, deserted look.
The 35-mile-long Salton Sea, one of the biggest salt-water lakes
in the world, appeared by accident in 1905. Canals directing waters
from the Colorado River to the Imperial Valley breached their banks
during an exceptionally severe winter. Billions of gallons of water
flooded into this once dry desert, and were trapped 235 feed (72m)
below sea level, with no natural outlet. The sea has become increasingly
saline over the years, and is now more salty than the Pacific Ocean
- but it still manages to support fish and other wildlife. It is
an important winter recreation area for sports such as fishing,
boating and water-skiing. |
A
demarcados. He uma visao bem interessante.
existe vida dentro dela (peixes e plantas).
aquaticos. |

Stop to go to the bathroom. at $.25cents to open the bathroom door. |
| Aqui voce paga .25 centavos para entrar no banheiro...
Ate que estava limpo. |

Now
we are arriving in Indio. Early this century, sophisticated irrigation
systems transformed this arid desert into a major agricultural center
producing grapefruit, cotton, alfalfa, vegetables and dates. Indio
is surrounded by palm trees and is the self-proclaimed "Date Capital
of the World". All the way along Highway 111, orderly rows of date
palms alternate with roadside stands, often with elaborate Moorish
facades, selling date products. The big event of the year in Indio
is the National Date Festival, held in mid-February every year. |
 |
Now
we are entering the rich part of the desert. Millions dollars houses,
expensive stores and restaurants of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and
Palm Springs. In Palm Desert you can see 1200-acre wildlife and
Botanical Park features rare plants and animals from deserts around
the world. In Rancho Mirage you will see the Betty Ford Clinic.
The country's most well known drug treatment clinic. But don't'
thing you will see any artist around here. They have a heavy security
and you cannot go close to the clinic. |
 |
As
No meio do nada. Muitos artistas vivem aqui, e inclusive
